Introduction to Sikhism

Sikhism Started in India in a area called the Punjab.

The religion was started by Guru Nanak.

Guru means religious teacher.

Sikhs worship in a temple called a Gurdwara.

This is the Golden Temple at Amritsar.

The Sikh Holy book is called the Guru Granth Sahib. It is treated with a great deal of respect.

This is a chauri it is used to show respect to the Guru Granth Sahib.

This flag is called the Nishan Sahib.

On it you can see the Sikh symbol.

The belief that everyone is equal is very important for Sikhs.

They show they everyone is equal by sharing a meal after worship called the Langar.
